Makiki Fieldhouse
Makiki Fieldhouse
This project proved to be a special program from the beginning. Adjacent to a recently built 9,750 SF custom residence, the parcel was purchased to become the location for a recreation house to serve as an accessory to the existing residence. The program called for a high school regulation basketball/volleyball structure with attached 1-bedroom/2-bath house which would blend in with the aesthetics of the newly developed existing residence. Extensive greening strategies were applied to the design including passively ventilated spaces, solar power technologies, and water catchment systems which would utilize the extensive roof’s runoff as irrigation for the site. As the client’s initial goal was to plan for his family’s future, the structure was oriented in a way that took full advantage of the lot’s size and allows for future subdivision of the lot.
LOT AREA: 28,300 s.f.
LIVING AREA: 725 s.f.
BUILT AREA: 8,535 s.f.
